Jamaica is a magical place. If
you're looking for a near perfect Caribbean
vacation, consider Jamaica.
I love the feeling you get when you first land;
clean salt air, blue skies and inviting crystal
clear blue water.
Jamaicans are great people. The welcome you get is
lively, friendly and I like the "Welcome To Jamaica,
Mon" in their rich accent.
I've been several times, and it's so darn easy to
just fall into Jamaica's easy, laid back lifestyle.
People always ask, "where do you go to
really experience Jamaica?" Here are 5 things to do
in Jamaica to
really experience the cultural, adventuresome, and
scenic attractions.
1- Visit Ocho Rios: Bob Marley & James Bond have
made this area famous, so while there, plan
to visit the Bob Marley Mausoleum. James Bond fans
on the other hand choose to visit Goldeneye, the
beautiful estate where many of Ian Flemings novels were
written. There's also an entertaining bus trip that
takes you through some really breathtaking
scenery.
2- Something would be wrong if you didn't visit
Kingston... the Capital of Jamaica. Busy and
commercial, Kingston is a must visit destination.
Home of Devon House, it's heritage date backs
centuries. Check for local events. The city of
Mandeville along the south coast has one of the
oldest coffee plantations. Another and often
overlooked attraction, is the National Gallery; it houses
Jamaica's most important art collection.
3- Negril Beach is a popular white sand beach and
considered by most visitors to be Jamaica's best
beach. You find fun open-air restaurants and beach
bars. While there visit the Negril Lighthouse on
West End Road. Built in 1894, you'll find it open
every day. Be forewarned: climbing to the top
(100ft/30m) is a tough climb up steep steel steps.
The awesome views of the coast are worth it if you
take it slow.
4- Montego Bay is home to several great beaches and
the Montego Bay Marine Park, located adjacent to the
city of Montego Bay. At Pier One Marina, you'll find
info about the Marine Park. While there, plan a
visit to the Windomaker's Cave. Also visit Doctors
Cave Beach. Considered a safe, secure area, you'll
find this a spectacular beach as well.
5- Dunn's River Falls is this gorgeous 600ft
waterfall. Since it is such a popular destination,
you'll find a crowd most days but, in my opinion,
it's definitely worth it. I suggest taking the
plunge in the clear cold waters using an experienced
guide. It makes the trip better because of the
details and stories the hip guides add to the
experience.
There are so many great places to stay while
visiting Jamaica. The one thing I suggest for your
Jamaica trip is to consider renting from one of the
many vacation rentals available. You'll save money
and your trip to
Jamaica will be just a little more relaxed and
laidback. Be sure to take a lot of pictures of your
Jamaican vacation and if it's your 1st visit, hire a
Jamaica guide to help you see the best places..
